According to the column under this headline, Wizkid may have said no to local Rwandan musicians seeking to ge

t a verse or chorus from the Nigerian popstar.

The ‘Ojuelegba’ singer was in Rwanda to perform at the Mutzig Beer Fest, an annual event in the country. This year the fesival took place on 27 August.
It appears some Rwandan artists took the opportunity of Wizkid’s presence in their country to ask for a feature. Those advances were rebuffed. Instead Wizkid chose to stay in his “plush Marriott Hotel” room. He is said to have spent his time recording with DJ Maphorisa, the South African DJ with whom Wizkid made the song ‘Soweto Baby’ from last year.
DJ Maphorisa, who is a member of the group Uhuru, “came all the way from South Africa to record a new track.” The track may appear in the much-delayed third album from Wizkid.
The Rwandan article ends with a declaration in favour of Wizkid. The Nigerian star, according to The New Times, “is entitled to whatever he wants.”
In recent times, besides his work with Drake and Chris Brown, Wizkid has been featured on new songs from artists such as Patoranking and Mr May D. A collaboration with Jidenna is also in the works. The Nigerian-American’s concert held in Lagos had Wizkid in attendance.
A different article from the same New Times column says Wizkid requires $15,000 for a feature. According to the report, this was the amount demanded from the Ugandan rapper Navio, who may have come to Rwanda just to see Wizkid. Navio, it is claimed, was also asked “to prove to Wizkid that he had a fan base and stage presence.”
Fortunately for Navio, he delivered at the Rwandan beer festival despite his initial absence from the list of artists scheduled to perform.
